Flight System Update Procedure

  • Update your drone
  • Update your external radio
  • Update your Dock
  • Perform your preflight check
  • Conduct a functional test flight
  • Work with your Skydio account team to conduct a new Setup Flight - this is required to enable Pathfinder and Drone-to-drone deconfliction

Note: Do not update your system while the drone is in flight.

Update Features This release boosts mission efficiency and safety with smart flight planning, autonomous parachute deployment, and robust drone deconfliction—while enhancing compliance, expanding mission capabilities, and streamlining fleet and data management.

Pathfinder (Beta)

  • Optimized Flight Path - Pathfinder uses terrain, building, and geofence data to calculate an optimal path between two points while maintaining height AGL, saving battery and reducing response time while also freeing up the pilot to focus on comms, awareness, and intel gathering
  • Lost Comms Operation - Enables flight through dead zones and still reaches the destination and calculates routes onboard to ensure safe return without connectivity

Parachute (EAP)

  • Meet regulatory requirements - Parachute mitigates risk to people on the ground and enables compliant “Ops Over People”
  • Autonomous system monitoring - Internal sensors proactively monitor flight conditions to detect anomalies and automatically deploy Parachute if necessary
  • Take action when you need to - Manual override option gives pilots the ability to deploy the Parachute on demand or disable it entirely

Safety and Flight Experience

Improvements

  • Skydio drone-to-drone deconfliction (Beta) - Prevents Skydio drones in the same Site from colliding—enabling faster, safer ops
  • Wind Direction and Speed Estimation Indicators - Wind estimation indicators reveal in-air conditions that impact battery performance and flight speed. Visual guidance shows wind direction relative to drone heading—helping pilots make faster, smarter decisions

Mission

Improvements

  • Missions in Night and Rain - Reuse pre-planned missions at night and in the rain while monitored by a remote pilot
  • Camera Settings by Drone and Sensor Package - Exposes a larger range of settings offered by different sensor packages while ensuring the mission runs successfully
  • Updates to Live Mission Planner - More unified mission planning experience across both Live and Map planning
  • Panorama Support for Missions - X10 missions from Dock now support Panorama as a camera action at waypoints

Skydio X10 Gen 2 Support

  • Device Visibility - X10 Gen 2 drones are now listed in the Skydio Cloud with updated type labeling and all-gray drone image
  • Carrier Management - View carrier for each drone, see which carriers are active per flight, filter flights and export data by carrier in the Reports tab
  • Telemetry Support - Remote Flight Deck displays live cellular telemetry and carrier information

Security and Cloud Admin

Improvements

  • Mixed Fleet Cloud Orgs - Manage both docked and non-docked X10 drones under a single cloud org—no more siloed operations
  • Improved security for Skydio Connect SL - Skydio Connect SL is more resistant to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks

Radiometric Image File Handling

  • Spot radiometric images at a glance - Thermal images captured via skills, 3D Scan, Map Capture, or other workflows now include a _R.JPG suffix in the filename
  • Simplify analysis and storage - New naming makes it easy to distinguish radiometric files from standard thermal imagery—no guesswork required

Fixes and Additional Improvements

This release includes updates that impact different roles within the Skydio ecosystem. To help you quickly identify what matters most to you, we have grouped updates by role. Use the definitions below to identify which sections apply to your responsibilities:

Remote Pilots

Remote Pilots conduct missions via Remote Flight Deck (RFD) or DFR Command, operating drones remotely rather than in-person.

This could include tasks such as managing autonomous flights, overseeing Drone as First Responder (DFR) responses, monitoring live video feeds, and maintaining mission oversight from a command center or dispatch location.

Examples of relevant updates: autonomous flight stability, real-time subject tracking and situational awareness, live video reliability for mission oversight

Organization Admins

Organization Admins manage system-level settings in Skydio Cloud. They are responsible for tasks such as maintaining fleet and equipment readiness, managing integrations, assigning user roles, and ensuring compliance within regulatory and organizational policy.

Examples of relevant updates: log in and authentication (SSO), user access, DroneSense settings

REMOTE PILOTS

  • Pathfinder (Beta)
  • Instead of flying in a straight line, Pathfinder uses terrain, building, and geofence data to calculate an optimal path between two points while maintaining AGL.
  • Pilot Efficiency: Frees pilot to focus on comms, awareness, and intel gathering
  • Faster Routing: Chooses shortest path to save battery and reduce response time
  • Lost Comms Safety: Calculates routes onboard to ensure safe return without connectivity
  • Connectivity Gaps: Enables flight through dead zones and still reaches the destination respecting timeout settings

Visit: Getting started with Skydio Pathfinder (Beta) for more information about using this feature.

Note: Pathfinder is in Beta and is available for DFR customers flying Dock for X10. Work with your Skydio account team to enable Pathfinder for your organization.

Note: Pilot attention is still required during Pathfinder autonomous flight.
