Frequently Asked Questions
Is updatemystuff.com free?
Yes. Browsing the catalog, reading release notes and following a product's firmware history is completely free. A free account simply adds email alerts for the gear you choose to watch.
Do I need an account?
No — everything is readable without one. You only need an account if you want to watch products and be emailed when new firmware is released.
How do firmware alerts work?
Create an account, open any product and choose to watch it — or watch a whole category. We'll email you when a new version appears. You can pick instant emails, a daily digest or a weekly digest in your account settings.
Where do the firmware files come from?
They don't come from us — updatemystuff.com never hosts firmware. Every release links to the manufacturer's official download page, which is always the safest source.
How fresh is the data?
Manufacturer pages are checked at least once a day. New findings are reviewed before they're published, to avoid false alarms.
A firmware version disappeared from a vendor's site. What happened?
We mark it as withdrawn and keep it in the product's history. Manufacturers occasionally pull firmware that causes problems, and knowing that matters just as much as knowing about a new release.
Why doesn't my camera or lens have a picture?
We only show an image when we can attribute it to the exact product from the manufacturer's own material. When we can't be certain, we'd rather show nothing than guess wrong.
A vendor or product I care about is missing. Can you add it?
Very likely — get in touch via the contact form and we'll look into it. A few manufacturers actively block automated monitoring, which can limit what we're able to track, but we're adding new sources all the time.
Can I advertise on updatemystuff.com?
Yes. updatemystuff.com reaches an engaged audience of camera, lens and drone owners. See the advertising page for placements and reach, or reach out through the contact form.
How do I get in touch?
Use the contact form — whether it's a correction, a vendor request, a bug, an idea or an advertising enquiry. updatemystuff.com is actively being developed, and we read everything that comes in.
